APPNA Canada is a professional, non-political, equal opportunity organization, which promotes excellence in healthcare, research, education, social justice, and humanitarian activities. It facilitates the transfer of healthcare expertise and resources to deserving communities. It also provides advocacy, caters to cultural and social needs, is a vehicle for charitable projects, and seeks to nurture young physicians. APPNA Canada mission is to empower Pakistani decent Canadian physicians under one Banner to achieve its goals and objectives.

To become the premier organization of physicians of Pakistani Descent in Canada that best promotes and serves healthcare, educational, social, and charitable activities in Canada, Pakistan, and worldwide.

Assalamu Alaykum, dear Appna Canada members
It gives me great pleasure to be able to write a few words about Appna Canada.

APPNA Canada was envisioned during Western Canadian meeting hosted by APPNA Alberta chapter that was held in Banff,Alberta 2022, attended by President Haroon Duranni, Past Presidents Rizwan Khalid, Mubasher Rana and many more, I was the general secretary then and I travelled to Canada and I saw the issues that Canadian physicians faced and then decided to do something about it.
I worked with Arshad Rehan, and then during my tenure we have diligently worked to not only registered Appna in Canada as a branch, but also created advocacy committees for Canada separate as we realize the issues faced by Canadian physicians are different than those faced in United States
We also created a separate YPC committee for Canada as the Canadian students have different set of challenges to try to get into the residency programs and we had YPC of Canada and YPC of United States collaborate to help residence from Canada obtain residency in the United States
Subsequent to this, we decided to empower the Canadian physicians by actually creating a structure that will take the Canadian members to a new structure, where they will be empowered and will be able to hold elections under Appna and have a legislative body that would look after the Canadian physicians
We have also incorporated a yearly meeting in Canada to involve the Canadian physicians in Appna affairs
I think we have achieved a fair amount of success in the last couple of years
I owe this success heavily to certain individuals that I want who have helped me diligently and have worked shoulder to shoulder with Appna in achieving its goals in Canada
I would like to thank Dr. Tariq Awan for his leadership and time and volunteerism to help APPNA prosper as well as register Appna in Canada I also want to thank Dr Amir Aslam Dr Saad Yasin Dr Tariq Vakani ,Dr Humera Ali, Dr. Naushad Noorani, Dr. Razi Saeed, Dr. Wajid Ahmed Dr Nadeem Mazhar Dr Huma Aftab Dr Natasha Afzal, Dr Jamil Akhtar Dr Sarah Makhdoom in the entire advocacy committee and the task force for Canada that have helped me to come this far in registering Appna in Canada as a branch working on the bylaws diligently and taking the task forward.
I just want to salute all of you and without you this would not have been possible.

Now with the APPNA Canada Interim Board and a road map in place, I hope you continue on this path and achieve an empowered Appna Canada with its own legislation, its own elections and officers
I envision an Appna that is thousand members strong in Canada Inshallah
Best wishes to all of you as I complete my tenure I want to assure you that I have worked only in the best interest of Appna without any politics or any other motives.

Message from the President

Assalamu alaikum,

It is with immense honor and privilege that I write this message following our inaugural APPNA Canada elections. We’ve made history! I’m honored to present our first democratically elected board, setting a new precedent for Pakistani Canadian physicians.

First, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to the Nomination and Election Committee, led by Dr. Nadeem Mazhar, along with Co-Chair Asim Amjad and Dr. Sadaf Sarwar, for successfully conducting our first elections. This historic milestone marks a significant achievement for our community, especially considering the record time in which we drafted our bylaws, launched a membership drive, and held fair and transparent elections, setting a historic record.

Notably, the fact that some members opted for paid lifetime membership despite the free option reflects their confidence in our team and mission. We’re grateful for their trust and support.

APPNA Canada was registered under the visionary leadership of President Asif Mohiuddin and the APPNA BOD 2024. Kudos to everyone involved and supported in this endeavor.

Our new board comprises dedicated, talented, and visionary leaders. I’m excited to work together to achieve greater heights, Insha’Allah.

Despite the challenges we’ve faced since early 2025, we’re committed to constructive dialogue and reconciliation with all stakeholders, striving for mutual respect and collective goals. I seek your guidance and support in this journey.

I invite everyone to join hands in establishing a professionally run organization that upholds ethics, understands conflict of interest, and works towards the betterment of our community and future generations.
